Is the series for The Staff and the Sword! complete? I’m tired of waiting two, five, or ten years for authors to put out another book!!!

YES! The Staff and the Sword! is complete and finished! And I totally feel you. I started reading The Wheel of Time when the first book was released in 1990. I had no idea the series would last for 24 years!, the original author would die!, and it would take 14 books!!!

What is the reading order for The Staff and the Sword! ?

Here is the reading order for series. If you read it our of order, it really won’t make sense.

  • Book 1: A Cast of Stones
  • Book 2: The Hero’s Lot
  • Book 3: A Draw of Kings
What is the appropriate age level for The Staff and the Sword! series?

The Staff and the Sword series is perfectly comfortable for adults and young adults aged 14 and up. This is a story in the classic sword and sorcery genre with some delightful twists. I strove to make this a fun adventure in the vein of Raiders of the Lost Ark. While everyone has there own opinion, I don’t think most parents would be concerned with their children reading the story.

Why is the series called The Staff and the Sword! ?

The series name was an inspired effort by my publisher. There are two primary weapons used by the main characters. First, almost everyone uses a sword. An exception to this is our protagonist, Errol, who stinks at swordplay, and I mean really stinks. Instead, he learns to use a staff (also called a bowstaff).

This actually turns out to be one of the most important aspects of the story as well as a huge metaphor for a lot that goes on in the background. One of the goals of the series was to give everything and everyone possible two levels of meaning, one at the surface and another symbolic meaning. My hope was that is would be a story people would come back to for a second read.
